Mount Etjo Safari Lodge
nestled within the Okonjati Wildlife Sanctuary, which was founded
by world-renowned conservationist, Jan Oelofse during the early seventies.
Situated in one of the most scenic parts of Namibia, you can come into
close contact with nature itself. Hundreds of species of birds and mammals
can be sighted here, including elephant, black and white rhino, hippo,
giraffe and numerous antelope ranging from the majestic Kudu to the
diminutive Damaraland dik-dik. Predators roam here such as lions and
leopards.
The new Namibia was born at Mount Etjo Lodge, where the
historic 1989 Mount Etjo Declaration was signed under the supervision of
the United Nations. The Joint Commission of the UN met at Mount Etjo, on 8
and 9 April 1989 in an extraordinary session. Delegations from Angola,
Cuba, South Africa, the United Sates and Russia attended this meeting, in
order to facilitate the restoration of peace and independence for the
Republic of Namibia.
